All Academic applies to all prospective students?

Writing blogs for IELTS aspirants like you is my passion and always gives pleasure to me. Since you have been reading this blog indicates that you are preparing for IELTS and that you want to work/study/settle in an English-speaking nation. You might already be aware of the fact that IELTS exam is organised into four modules – reading, listening, writing and speaking.

My last blog on IELTS was titled ‘Can I improve English Pronunciation with DIY?’. In this blog, we discussed various aspect of pronunciation including can someone improve English pronunciation to score a high band score in IELTS exam. We also discussed that pronunciation plays a pivotal role in speaking module and can impact 25% of the IELTS score. In this blog, we are going to discuss how to choose between two versions of IELTS. Though this is not a complicated choice yet this aspect is ignored by some candidates and they feel the repercussions.

Every IELTS aspirant knows about the two versions of IELTS test, Academic and General Training, and that out of the four IELTS modules two are common while two of them are different for academic and general training candidates. For the academic version, the reading and writing modules are different and the passages are more complicated and relatively lengthy, though lesser in number. While the general training version has 4-5 reading passages which are relatively easier and less complicated in nature. A similar situation is there in case of writing.

The academic version is applicable to the candidates who want to study abroad while the general training module is applicable to the candidates who want to work abroad. Though the candidates use this as a thumb rule while it is not so. One must conduct thorough research and check the rules to see the applicability if the right version in her or his case. In the past few years, I have seen many candidates making a mistake in this decision. A wrong decision takes away time from you and time is a precious resource.
